quietest return pump

in your experience what is the quietest return pump available? im doing a build soon and want a quiet pump since the tank will be in my bedroom.

Quiet one 3000 and 2200 are awesome. They run cool and quiet.

I have tried Rio and Mag pumps and they work well but In the bedroom I use Ehiem and it is more quiet than the others . I do have a DC pump and I have not tried it out but I have heard they are very quiet also.

If you can't go DC, then Eheim or QuietOne. Mags and Rio pumps are huge heat generators and not nearly as quiet or cool running as the others.

I am pretty happy with my Sicce but it doesn't seem like many people use them. I really want to try out a DC pump because the only thing I can hear now is the AC hum.

went through a few different pumps before finally spending a lil extra money on the Eheim and couldnt be happier with that choice. Great pump, well built and quiet. Only down side is they're not the smallest pump...

I agree on size. I have a mag12 that's a bit smaller than my 1262 lol. But it's quiet so I can't complain.

cool so eheim seems to be the general consensus. what model would you use for a 40 breeder? im looking to get somewhere between 350-500 gph a little less since the vortechs will be handling the flow requirements of the corals

1262 should be fine, you could go with the 1260 but for the few extra dollars you get almost 250gph more

What size drain/drain setup are you going with? I have a herbie 1" drain and return with the 1262 wide open and it's perfect.

I only have 2 days experience with this but my speed wave DC pump is very quiet.

Okay, I must say I would actually go with a DC. I think they are inevitably the future of the hobby. I have had all the above mentioned and really like eheim and quiet one but if I were buying a new one it would definitely be a DC.

QuiteOne pumps are quite, long lasting and affordable! I have 5 in use and one is 4+ yrs old.

sean im also going to do the herbie but im going to use 1/2" for the full siphon drain and a 3/4" for the emergancy drain. do you think the half would be too small?

E heim 1262. Quietest pump I've ever had. I run my skimmer with it and i can't even heat it through the stand. It is also an extremely efficient pump with less heat transfer than others in its class.
