I am fixing to be transfering tanks and and i will be moving live rock to the new tank from my old tank. My question is that the rock i currently have has coral attached and i was wondering how long it could stay out of water as i want to stack the rock in the new tank before i add the water. The rock will be placed in a holding tank with water in it so it should only be out long enough to achieve the desired look and fill the tank. Also i have a small FW issue and was wondering can i dip each pice of rock in feshwater for a period of time to eliminate the problem?

Depending on the types of coral, I would think you could have them out of the water long enough to re-aquascape....it would depend on how fast you are at it though. I did it this way a few years ago and didn't have any problems. I wouldn't try a freshwater dip on the liverock though. You'll hurt the coralline/sponges/bacteria growing on the rock. Even with a freshwater dip, I wouldn't think you'd get all the FW...so many little nooks and cranny's for just a few to escape...then you have a FW problem again. You could give them a good shake in some saltwater...that would get rid of a large amount of the flatworms and make treating them with flatworm exit safer.

Ok. My corals range from softies to sps. Just trying to get feel of what i should and should not do.

I search aquascaping (google) and found a few good ideas of what I like, looked at all my rock and thought it out before I transfered anything. Saving small pcs. till last. Moved rock into my holding tank then into my new tank. Fill tank as you build, and when done go back and clean every water line(I had 3,lol)...
Here is my new 120g... I upgraded from a 90g FOWLR to a 120g Mix-Reef... So i'm selling/sold a few fish...
Enjoy...
