IMO your on the edge of dosing or reactor. For me, SPS 60g with 30g sump $50 in dosing chem from BRS will last a year. Do you plan on having a ton of SPS?

Very good thread. I have a 65 gallon tank right now and setting up a 95 gallon right now. Though paying $600+ for a reactor is a bit too much for me ATM.
But I will be adding corals again soon to my 65 gallon once I beat my HA issue. And my 95 will be a full reef so this is good to know for future planning.
A gallon container or 16 cups of Calcium Chloride or Soda Ash is good for 8 gallons. You used that much in two weeks? Thats insanity. How often do you change out the media in your calcium reactor?
No I used 1 gal of calcium mixed in solution in two weeks maximum. I also added an extra 1/2 cup of Calcium Chloride in the jug toward the end. I thought he said he bought enough to make 8 gal worth.
I always had hard time keeping calcium up but alk was OK. I had the doser set to dose it 4 times a day because it was dosing so much.
I think dosing is fine but the reactor has to be cheaper and for me was much easier. The thing with a doser is you have to set it off to make sure it doasing the right amount each week. If you have a reactor you can visually tell if something is wrong by the drip rate looking slower or PH not being what it is suppose to be.

Got ya that makes more sense....so a gallon of Calcium and soda ash would last you four months and thats $32....much more reasonable.
I would imagine it has got to be easier with a reactor, I guess the upfront cost is the real bummer.. depending on how big of one you need. Which one do you have Joe? And how often do you change out the media?
