throughout the forums I read I see people mention calcium reactors/ reactors. I have no knowledge of them and what purpose they serve....

Any help here will be appreciated.

Hey man. BASICALLY, the ca rx serves the purpose of keeping your ca at a level that is high enough for your hard corals to grow. Co2 is pumped over a compound that dissolves in the reactor and flows back into the tank. Honestly, they LOOK a lot more complicated than they actually are. I'm sore someone will post a sticky to the ca rx thread.

If you only have soft corals then they arrent necessary? Do you put them in your sump? Are they easy to intigrate into your plumbing? Lol sorry for all the questions

If you only have fish you don't need one. Some people don't even use them w coral tanks but dose ca in other ways.

Most of the time they are in the sump are, but outside the sump w a pump.

If you're just doing softies you'll be fine with water changes, provided you use a good reef salt.

Reactors are a type of media chamber that hold different types of media. There are different types such as calcium reactors, GFO and Carbon reactors, bio pellet reactors, and more. The reactor can be hard plumbed into your return line or supplied by an individual pump. Bulk Reef Supply and others have some YouTube videos that cover them if you want to see first hand the purpose they each serve in the reef tank.
