I had a Koralia Nano that I recently sold. I was never too impressed with the output, but it had one thing going for it, as it's the only pump I've found that can fit through the 70mm opening of a tighthead pail (some people just call it a 5gal water jug you get ro/di in).

It was really convienant to drop the koralia and a heater in the jug, throw in some salt and let it mix. That's a 20% water change for a tank my size. Only drawback was it took over a day for the Koralia to disolve the salt fully, as the outbut on those things aren't great.

I thought I'd just get another type of powerhead, but nothing I've found has fit. I was hoping the MJ 600 would fit through the opening, but it's too big.

Any ideas?

Sunlight supply has a new line of very inexpensive pumps and powerheds out now, under the EcoPlus name. I know Keen Reef has them in stock, maybe some other Sponsors as well.

Dakota, that's only 2.5 cups of salt and I'm really surprised it takes that long for the salt to disolve. What is the temp of the water when you start? I would think that if the water is at least over 70 degrees, with the nano pointed at the bottom and adding just a cup at a time it should take just an hour or so. The minijet 606 might work for you but I would still think the nano would be the best option.

I use salt buckets or Home Depot buckets for my water change water and drop one of these cheap pumps in there (like a 2600 model) and it mixes it up pretty quick. I do let it mix overnight though.

True the salt i used to use is OI, and recently turned to Seachem, but yes, it took the nano a while to mix it. Swirling at the bottom would be a cloud of white, which in reality, probably wasn't salt, but buffers.

The K nano wasn't really great in the fact i used it in a 2.5 gallon holding tank and it really didn't seem to have enough flow.

Just bought one from Keen Reef. It's like just a few mm's too big, hopefully he'll let me return it for the next size smaller.

I'm trying to fit a pump inside a 70mm opening, the problem is that the 70mm is measured from outside thread to outside thread. The ID is probably closer to 63mm. I think the smallest will fit.

Just FYI.....

The smallest EcoPlus pump (variable to a max of 66 gph I believe) fits well inside a 5 gallon tight head pail. Just add pump, heater and appr. 2 1/2 cups of salt, and in a few hours, you have fresh saltwater... Great for people with small systems who only require a 5gal water change.
