:fish: I am new to the ATL Reef Club.. I've been researching and reading and researching for about a month now.. Definately finding this site most helpful.. But there are so many different products and stuff.. I'm getting a 55 gallon tank.. I want to get quality equiptment for my tank.. If ya'll could recommend what I should get to start out with, which brands and the best places to get them at.. I would greatly appreciate it..Thanks..

Welcome!

That is a question with a thousand answers. I would hang around and look at some of the used stuff, and feel free to PM anybody that looks like they have been around for awhile (or ask at a meeting) and you will get good information.

A lot has to do with what you want to keep, how much you are willing to spend, and how much effort you want to put into it. Visiting other people's tanks on a tour of tanks is also a great idea.

Good luck!

<span style="color: Navy;"><span style="font-size: 13px;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">I am new to the salt water hobby as well. Lots of particulates in the water, looking for a HOB filter with surface skimming and room for a protein skimmer later.

I've got a 40 gal breeder, pc lights, undergravel/deep sand bed setup. Couple of PH's and I am off to the races. I am short on LR right now. Everything was free except the sand and stand (DIY wood butchery). What should I get next?

LR rock is a given, more crabs but what hardware? I am a hardware nutter, as my colleges in the UK would say I am looking for bits of tin, pieces of kit, things that ain't rubbish yeah.

Cheers

Welcome to the reef! I know that it said over and over but reading the posts on here (as well as other sources) is by far the best way to get familiar with this fantastic hobby. I promise you won't get bored. :) You will quickly realize that everyone has a favorite "toy" for their tank and different techniques on pretty much everything. The general guidelines for sucessful reefing will present themselves as you read. There are several ways to skin this cat and feel free to ask any questions that come to mind.
