Okay, so i saw this in my seahorse tank today.....at least i think it is:

Botryocladia skottsbergii has been dubbed by some as 'Red Valonia'

It's about halfway down the page......it says alot about its origins but does anyone know if it's as bad as green bubble or how to get rid of it?

It's only two tiny bubbles right now and it actually looks really cool but if it's bad I dont want it spreading......

Thanks.

Good luck. That stuff is a nightmare. I'd much rather have a green algae outbreak.

I've got it in my tank, and I don't think I'll ever be able to completely rid my tank of it. My scribbled rabbitfish does eat all of it in sight, but there's always going to be some crevices where the algae can hide and reproduce.

See my previous article for more info.

Get rid of it by hand immediately before it's too late!

get airline tubing and start a syphon and suck them out. If you remove by hand without taking the rock out you chance them popping and spreading the spores throughout the tank.

Get the rock out NOW, remove the bubbles and nuke the rock. Nip this in the bud, it may be too late... but at least try to get rid of it before it spreads...

Scribbled rabbitfish (and probably other rabbitfish) will eat the red bubble algae.

thanks guys......its going to ghave to wait until tuesday so hopefully it isnt too bad by then....it's too bad it's bad because it reaqlly looks cool....for now....anyway, thanks for the tips....

Rit the green and red varieties are very different. The red one is the devil. Don't be lazy bout it, treat it like the plague and get it out of there :).

Sorry for the confusion there, the last sentance was directed at jorge. Glad to see you're bubble free though :).

I'm in the process of re-aquascaping and I am taking all the rocks out of the tank right now......as far as I can see that one rock is the only one that still has red bubble algae on it.......how exactly would I nuke it since its out of the tank anyway?

Emerald crabs (Mithrax sculptus) will eat green bubble algae, so they may eat red. They might also treat your star polyps like algae, only to discard them once they discover they're not food. ba$tard$...

lol...thanks danny.....but no crabs in this tank...its seahorses

Im just gonna pop pff the spores outside the tank and then FW bathe the rock for a while.....there is plenty of of other LR in the tank.......Ill hose it down with my super pressure hose nozzle.

Try insulting it to its bubble face. Maybe it will run away in defeat. But don't backdown, it can sense weakness.
