I want to trade my Melanarus Wrasse with yours. Mine takes out my cleaning crew. I see him carrying the shells across the tank every day. I pull about 10 empty shells out a week.
I loved my Melanarus Wrasse...but he was murder on the cleanup crew. When he was little, he was no problem. When he got bigger, he ate snails...all the time. He was peaceful towards the other fish though.
These beauties also eat red flatworms... but then if they die they are toxic.

I'd try livestock that eats them before the chemicals. I haven't actually heard any horror stories from the chemicals, but I'd just rather leave it as a last resort.
I had an outbreak of red flatworms and never completely got rid of them, but the 6 line wrasse kept them under control so they weren't a nuisance.
