Ive just noticed a small patch of red slime algae aka cyano. Its on an area of rock that can be cut off. Is cutting off the area enough to prevent an outbreak? If not how to get rid of it?

You can siphon it off easily or suck it off with a baister
If it won't suck off its not cyano

My experience is you will see a bit from time to time. Not too often. Do a water change or two, siphon it off, and it will go away.

you wont have an outbreak unless something is really wrong.

Cyno can appear anywhere that nutrients collect. Doesn't necessarily mean you have nutrient problem but lack of flow to that area will help excess "stuff" settle.
