I sure am going to miss my Reef Crystal buckets! Must have 15 or 20 those things lying around. I use them for everything. With Reef Crystals coming in a 200 Gallon mix box, with a price cheaper than the bucket....I guess I have to do my part to help save the planet and buy green products.

Those darn buckets do come in handy...I guess whenever the time comes adn I need another one...I'll just have to break down and buy the salt in the bucket--

lol with the money we will save you can go to Home depot and buy them they are #3 each if we only save $10 and get 40gal of more salt you can buy 3 buckets with that i dont see a problom

That and or old buckets aren't falling apart anytime soon.
May have to invest in tupperware or a feed storage bin for freshness, but still we all come out on top.

Yes, if I can get 200 gallons of Reef Crystals mix for $30, I can make do, but I doubt the savings will be that significant. I bet the price doesn't drop, or even goes up a few bucks and they say the extra salt cancels out the bucket.

Hope they don't get us with the free towel or t-shirt bit. We'll all be suckers for that.

Hey, I still use my "Instant Ocean" towel, usually put it on the floor when I'm working around the tank to make clean up easier. Also gives me something white to throw in the wash with filter socks.

Nice! Still sporting my shirt. Wish seachem would offer one. I would love to advertise for the salt I actually use

I have a bunch of different Seachem shirts. They just don't put them in their buckets of salt :)

I have a regular white Seachem shirt, a couple of Aquavitro shirts, a Platinum retailer shirt and a personalized "Certified Specialist" (LOL!) shirt that I earned from attending their Platinum training.

I have a little Seachem "backpack" style nylon bag too... and couple of travel mugs - a Seachem one and an Aquavitro one that says, "CF - Caffeine" (I love that!)

I forget why I got the white Tshirt... don't know if it came as a "bonus" with something, but I've had it forever.

I have bunches of shirts from bunches of products/manufacturers.

But back on topic... the boxed salt seems to be selling better than buckets these days. I too, miss having a plethora of buckets (we used to use buckets for store use, now we use boxed salt). Still, for us boxed is easier/more cost effective.

I can understand the cost effectiveness, but the buckets are so handy. And if I recall correctly the HomeDepot buckets, although very nice, they do not have a twist top like the Reef Crystals. I think my main concern is that the bucket was near airtight and I know a box is not going to be so tight, so am I going to be left with a block of salt hard as rock.....My sump room gets very humid, (which is a whole other subject for another day), but I can alwasys count on my salt staying fresh in the airtight bucket.

But I guess I could always use the box as a refill for the buckets....but it is just not the same....I have plans for all those buckets! :)

I was just going to suggest that - buy a bucket once (if you need one more bucket!) and just put the salt into the bucket once you open a bag that has come out of the bucket.

Another advantage to the boxes is that you only need to open 1/4 of it at a time. If a bucket isn't closed tightly and moisture gets in, you have a bucket-shaped cake of salt. With the box, at worst, 1/4 of it (or the unused portion of that 1/4) becomes a brick.
