So I added a HOB refugium to my 36G hopefully to deal with some excess nitrates/phosphates. I've read the light should run opposite of the tank light. The tank light hangs over over the tank and the fuge is open at the top. Would that be too much light? Should I run the lights together? Thanks!

Ideally you'd want to run the fuge light at night. That's what those that have a sump do. It's helps offset the pH drop at night.
In this case I'd run it at the same time as the main lights. That HOB fuge is going to get some light from the main lights anyway.

Can you light the fuge from the back and cover the top?
It is lit from the back. I guess I could cover it somehow... If it’s better to have the opposite schedule
