I know there are some back and forth about refugium mud. Do you have to change the refugium mud a lot, or is it best to do sand? and what type of sand is best for the refugium if thats the choice? The way they make the mud sound is like it slowly releases the trace elements and absorb all bad things in your water like nitrates, metals, and phosphates. what is your take on this. I greatly appreciate your thoughts on this and thanks for the help in advance.

Not sure why your post is in the for sale section, but yes, the mud has to be changed out eventually.</em> Not sure when that would be. I had mine in my sump for 1.5 years, and the bottom layer compacted into something evil.

I disconnected the sump, removed the mud and flushed it out with water. I replaced it with 4 inches of fine grained arragonite sand to setup a deep sand bed.

Tagging along.
I just love the "mud" threads.:D

Maybe I'll hear a viewpoint I have not heard before.

For me...I plan to use mud in my macro tank only because I think the rooted macros and sea grasses would benefit. Other than that, I may concur with others who believe these products to be...just dirt.
