Since I had on e poorly thought idea tonight I said what the heck double down.

I was thinking that a few of us scattered through out the area might could volunteer to set up quarantine tanks for that region or area. We would then offer it to club members who don't have the means to set up there own. They in turn could make a very small donation (not mandatory) when they used it to help with the cost of maintaining the system. Perhaps a sticky could be posted on the forum with the info for each volunteer's location etc. What do you guys think.

A major problem with that is liablity though.. You QT a fish at someones place and it dies.. Are they at fault?

Absolutely not and that could be understood up front with a disclaimer. Kinda like drilling glass tanks you just let them know on the frontside. From a legal stand point I don't think so but I am no attorney. I know if I volunteered for it and someone's fish died while in my care they would not receive any restitution from my broke butt. But from the clubs legal responsibility I am not sure Ansley but a very good question!

Oh.. I wasn't talking about from the clubs view.. I would considered this completely away from the club since its not paid for or maintained by the club.
I see it your way.. I was just bringing that up as I was wondering on what others thoughts are.. Always good to have an understanding with the person up front that in no way, shape or form are you legally responsible for the fish.. Just offering a service that is in place to help someone that maybe can round up the dough.. With me though.. QT's are pretty cheap.. Can go buy one of those complete 10 gallon kits and BAM! Instant QT that won't break the bank..

I was thinking of a little larger tank for tangs and maybe multiple fish (of the same owner of course) 30to 50 gallons

Large plywwod tanks with a pond liner would be cost efficient. Topoff would be easy enough. Diy skimmer would be just the matter of nice pumps hooked up correctly to a body and collector. Fuge and sandbed when needed could be paid for with cheap or donated used sand. Warranty would be the only issue. Go to sleep Dave before I have to fedex you a bottle of my sleep aid

That sounds like the Clyattville public pool ,funded by the Langdales. And yes the skimmer would be a must !lol

I have recently set up a couple of tanks for members or soon to be members, of which neither have the room to set up a big enough quarantine tank for the type fish that they are looking to keep. Both are newbies as well and would feel more comfortable with a little more experienced person watching and possibly treating their fish. Also some of the members are called to work out of town sometime and their spouse may not have the knowledge or time to care for the fish.So I thought I would offer this to other club members as well since the tank will be easy for me to set up with the space I have and most of the hard goods except a tank lol . Just thought it was a way I could help the members and give back a little. . Once the tank cycles I will post the info . There are a lot of helpful people on this forum and was thinking some might want to do the same on their side of town.

Hmmm sounds like a good idea. Would this process be bringing new fish home only or a holding facility for when action strikes? What about a hospital center? I do know many people do not have room for QT tanks, but would volunteers be willing to treat sick fishies as well with chemicals that render a tank useless, like copper so to speak?

I think it's a great idea. If I had the space I'd totally keep one set up for members. There should definitely be a caveat that the person with the QT is not responsible for the loss of fish, and users should be 100% aware and in agreement.

I wonder if any stores have thought about doing something like this. I'm sure they could charge a nominal fee, a sort of "rent."

I have a 55 gallon setup all the time for quarantine. I offer it free to anyone in the hobby who would like to be responsible and practice a quarantine procedure but doesn't have the resources to do so. I will watch and observe the fish for you and keep it feed.If some type of "treatment" is required then we can work something out . I'm not to worried about explaining liability here as I will assure you that will be without fail stated when someone decides to use it. I do reserve the right to refuse this to individuals of my choosing.
