I have the generic BRS reactors. How often do you change your filter pads for Carbon and GFO. Also where do you get your replacement pads? Looking for a low budget solution.

I clean my pads every week, but I only have 2 as the newer model doesn't use any on the GFO (I cleaned those every week, too~PIA).

Just get the new model canisters on their website. They also sell the pads. I have a few and rotate them out for easy change.

I replace them maybe every 2 years...

I couldn't agree more. I just took my GFO offline because the pads were way too much of a PIA. The pads would become almost solid after absorbing a bunch of small particles of GFO.

Ralph do you rinse your GFO before you put it in the reactor? I stopped prerinsing it and would just run like 1-2 gallons of tank water through it at the start of a water change to flush out loose particles...

Either way works!

I do rinse mine with rodi before to remove the fines and dust so they don't clog up the pads in the carbon canister.

Is this the canister that you're talking about?? You say you can run GFO in this without filter pads?
