I have always been a fan of the danner mag pumps because they are practically bullet proof. Never had one let me down. I was thinking about getting a mag 18 for the 180 I am picking up soon. Anyone have any other recommendations? Only thing that concerns me about the mag 18 is that it runs at 150w. Not very efficient.

Fluval SP4 or SP6 :)

Runs laps around a mag18. See the other "which pump" thread for more propaganda. ;)

I ran a Reeflo Dart on my 180 (external) and am using a Jeboa DC12000 (internal) now. I am very happy with the DC12000.

Thanks, do you have a build thread?

Do you have any other form of water flow in the tank? Closed loop or power heads?

I have a dart on a closed loop and only run my return at about 600 gph on my 300g.

Mag drives are great pumps but do use a good bit of power, but if youre really worried about that get a smaller pump and use flow pumps for water movement.

Pretty much anything around 1000 gph would work fine.

Personally I like mag drives and coralife pumps.

Yeah mags have been my go to since I started. Can't beat them except for power consumption
