I enjoy thinking of products that if created could change the way we enjoy the hobby. From a new pump, to new lighting technology.

So I'm wondering what futuristic products have you thought of?

Personally, I think it would be cool if one day there is a tank monitor that could red alk levels in your tank.

Someone needs to refine and manufacture a salt measuring and pouring gadget so that WC's can be truly automated.

I can't wait for this Mindstream Aquarium Monitor....:up::up:

Hope they actually make it happen... They are like the 3rd ones to try it now in this style. Everyone remember the huge bust the Thrive machine was? LOL

What happen with the Thrive machine? I've been waiting and waiting and .... Kind a reminds me of a commercial I once saw some time back. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoLoyg3JKRQ">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoLoyg3JKRQ</a>

Ya, put me down as one of the beta testers :)

As far as I know Thrive is no more. I haven't gotten any emails or updates from them in over half a year and they haven't post anything at all on their social media pages since May of 2015. In fact I don't even remember seeing them at the Global Expo last year. It was a complete nightmare to work with those people, especially the sales rep for this area... that guy had zero clue what he was talking about. So I'm not surprised at all.

I always wish I'd thought of the next best thing as soon as I see it.

I have no idea why the Mindstream thing hasn't come to market - given the potential thousands of $$$'s worth of fish & coral many hobbyists' could have in their tanks I would have expected a pretty huge demand. Yes, they had to cut down a couple parameters that it could handle after testing, but it still boasts some impressive features and trending.

And before someone chirps in with the monthly replacement disk costing too much ($40-90 at last) - look at what a Triton test battery runs (and how long before you get the results) and realize that many are doing one of those every month or two.

This was not seen to be so in their recent Kickstarter attempt, though. Baffled.

The other two companies that tried pretty much the exact same thing as Mindstream couldn't get the testing consistent enough over a long enough period of time. Also $40 a month in my opinion is still too high for this to go mainstream... considering you can buy a Redsea master kit for $40-50 that will last you at least a year.... sorry but $450+ a year on testing disks is just way too much for this to be a realistic and cost worthy replacement. There will be people that will buy for sure... but until the cost goes way down it will be a good while before you see people really using these.

You can't really compare this to something like a Triton test which really only the extreme hobbyist use. They really need to be compared to regular consumer test kits.

Did anyone else notice the picture on their website's front page of a "reef" tank with cichlids in it? Kinda funny... Still though, I would love to have their product if it works.

Jakub... I think you underestimate exactly how much I hate doing titration tests and color comparisons. ;)

But fair enough... the triton report does give a crazy number of parameters tested compared with the above.

Try doing 100+ tests per week... like we get to do for customers! Believe me... we WANT a simpler solution for testing... =)

I know the feeling :)

Just found this video, and am watching thinking about when I had that idea a few months back.

4 radion fixtures and clever programming. you're welcome, brett.

There you go! But, I wa thinking of two leds slightly angled inward, that runs on a track with 120 degree optics and move back and forth across the tank. We have the light programming just not the rotational track. You could easily reduce the cost of lighting with less units required.

I saw a build years ago, where someone tried this using the motors from an old copy machine(they used to move back and forth) It was a good idea, but I am not sure if he ever made it work.
