RO or RO/DI

I was considering purchasing a RO/DI unit when low and behold I won the RO unit at the frag swap:thumbs:.
My question now is should/can I purchase a DI unit to go with the RO or is the RO good enough? I live in Dekalb and I don't think our water is that hard, but who knows. Also, if I need to purchase a DI unit, where is the best place and what kind?

Go ahead and grab a D/I. RO alone rarely gets tap water to 0 TDS, which is the only reading I'd be comfortable with a reef tank. Bulk Reef Supply is a great place for all things filtration.

I did the same thing. Started with just an RO unit, realized my error, and added a DI. Easy to do. Ordered mine from BRS IIRC. Think I was right behind you in line for the freebies. Welcome and congrats on winning the RO unit!

I checked out BRS and I believe I'm going to get the dual canister DI unit. Thanks for the heads up Rskillz eagle.

Personally I would call Air Water Ice and ask them which DI unit to use with the RO unit you got. They are super cool and always ready to help. I would stick with the company that makes your entire unit so when you go to replace your filters you can order them all from one place. You can probably borrow a TDS meter either from a member, or take a fresh water sample to any LFS and they should test it for free. I got one with a ZERO Water filter at Target as we needed a filtering pitcher at the time anyway. You would be surprised how fast using degraded fresh water will lead to problems. Congrats on the RO unit by the way. That was a great score!
