I’m looking at getting a starter RODI system. I only have a 40g, so I don’t need a large one. Has anyone used/using the Aquatic Life RO Buddie 4 Stage? Thoughts?
So @ichthyoid (i think) brought up not using RO around us because the tap has pretty low TDS. Run it through sediment filters and carbon blocks and then right into the DI. That speeds up production and eliminates the waste water. I will say I have not removed my RO yet, but it makes sense. I have ran the same sediment and carbon blocks on my drinking water system for way longer than I really should've with no uptick in TDS. I've done about 350 gallons on the RODI since starting the system back up and have not even started seeing the resin change color yet.
Brandwise I wouldn't concern yourself with one reputable brand vs the other. I run a BRS system but that was just the brand of the day in my circle 10 years ago. I still run their filters but I don't think they are any better or worse than other quality brands.
Is that a the same a 1micron sediment filter or something different. Briefly googled and couldn't seem to exactly match up exactly what a "1 micron polishing filter" was. I plan to ditch my RO membrane this evening. I do have a drinking system tied in to my system before DI and after the current RO. What are your thoughts on drinking DI water? I remember seeing some things that it could theoretically be harmful but not sure that it's really to much of a big deal relative to an occasional beer or smoke in the long run.

I had the same system that you’re taking about whenever I was first starting out with my 75g, and I quickly switched to a system that uses universal canisters. I thought the buddie was a little bit of a hassle, and it needed replacement filters quickly that were almost the cost of the original unit haha. I’m sure I overpaid for the BRS system that I have now, but you can find a 4 stage canister system on Amazon for maybe double the price of the buddie, and it will last much longer and require less price when refilling the filters. I’m not an expert though; good luck!
