I have about 100 lbs. of live rock in a temporary 46 gallon tank (lights, heater, etc.) while my son and I work on building a sump for our 65 gallon.

Came home from work today and it appears our 300W heater overheated our temporary 46 gallon tank to almost 90 degrees.

It's frustrating because the heater is not very old, but it has been in storage for a couple of years.

Looks like it's time for a new heater!

My Hydor Theo did that. They said there was nothing wrong with the thermostat (it was set on 77-79, hard to tell exactly on the dial). Water was 93.

The heater is a Top Fin brand name. Not sure, but maybe water got through the seal. Either way, it is a goner!

Top Fin = Petsmart's house brand. Not sure who makes it (Tetra made a bunch of their stuff for a while but it varies).
