So what are the consensus on these? I’ve never ran socks cause they’re such a pain to clean (for me at least) so it seems like I always have a build up of junk. I like the idea of roller filters. Has anyone had any bad experience with them?

The Clarisea works well as long as you do routine maintenance in it every few months depending on your conditions. The Klir worked but I prefer the design of the Clarisea or look alike versions currently available.
