How many of you have done this?

I literally just set my rock in randomly when I set my tank up lil over a week ago when I switched everything over I kinda liked it.

I thought I had killed all my aptasia to find more tonight it was all isolated one one rock but was inside a crevice in the rock that was unreachable and too big of a gap to glue so my next solution was to just ditch the rock.

I have tried re arranging my rock for the past hour now flipping turning adjusting and at this point I just can't figure out anything that is to my liking.

Really don't like my tank right now

I think we have all been there...walk away from it for a while and get some of that pent up frustration out, and then when your mind is clear, come back to it...don't try to make it perfect, but don't go at it with reckless abandonment either, just start placing the rocks and roll with it.

One of the most frustrating things with a tank is the aquascaping for me. If you don't have corals in the tank you could always just pull it all out and start from scratch. I usually find that helps me accept the new aquascape. Otherwise I keep trying for what I had.

I spent two weeks on one tank before I was happy with the aquascaping. My hands were sore! Don't give up, it doesn't have to be done in one day.

I know exactly how you feel. My old tank still haunts me.

It seems like the random "first" shots at aqua scaping are usually the best. After that, you are just trying to recreate the random.

the biggest thing I learned when aquascaping is having a bucket filled with saltwater so you can remove rocks without tearing up your corals. Nothings worse that breaking apart colonies while youve got both hands in the tank rearranging. Ive also found that not being afraid to ditch a rock, or bringing a rock into a lfs and picking out another one can go a long way. Another trick is to mount corals on just a few nice shelf shaped rocks that can be set aside or pulled out. Then your base structure can be changed and your show pieces set back in and secured. Otherwise your left with a big pile in the tank.

This use to happen to me all the time even when I would use acrylic rods. J.B had the best advice...walk away. Almost every time I end up finding something l liked better anyway so I just dont get too stressed anymore.

+1, I think your best off taking your time and not necessarily trying to recreate what you had but rather something even better :). Good Luck! Most of us have been in your shoes; especially due to aptasia or pulling fish.

every single time I move a rock....another shifts....then another

it never goes back the same way twice. sometimes you can get it close though.

Problem is my tank is stocked full of frags in addition so I'm having to move corals along at the same time and I feel like that one rock I removed was the key element in making it work.

It was 2am when I was working on it plus I'm sick to boot. Although I have always had trouble with this part even with a rested mind and good health

For u guys with shallow reefs how do u keep your sand from blowing around. I'm running a mp10 but font even move it past the lowest setting and s maxi jet 1200 for return but I have the nozzle pointed to travel the longest span it can across the tank but I'm still getting bare spots in the edges of the tank

I have added some coarser grade sand/gravel/chunks specifically to spots where there was much movement, thene just sprinkled soe randomly to make the look uniform.

If you are aquascaping or do have to do a temporary rearrangement of your rock, a few digital pics of the aquascape are a good way to reference rebuilding it.

haah i've accidentally come up with nice ones before, changed things, and can't get it quite right many times!

you're not alone!
