It was a sad day on the Eagle today with the discovery of this dieing giant.
It is clear he was hooked by a fisherman and dragged 100+ feet to the surface, upon surfacing he was cut loose due to the fact it is illegal to keep the, proof that this type of catch and release does not work and the only true way to protect them and others is rotating no fish zones. As is apparent this 300+ pound giant's blatter has exploded from being brought to the surface. When I found him he was still alive be clearly taking his last.

Very sad

No pictures but I assume it was a Grouper....*******s!!!

I have about had it with fisherman and the gulf.....The place is going to be a dessert soon enough.....

Yes it doesn't work when you are brought up from 100 feet in a minute or 2....

They could have tired to bleed the bladder out to try to save the fish. Thats basically poaching and should hold the death penalty. :)

Got it......the MFer's Make me freaking ill.

I had a battle at the aquarium Sunday with an As-hole that says the gulf is FULL of Goliath Groupers and he can go down anywhere and see 60 or more at a time... I told him they are a threatened species and can not be touched or brought on to a boat..Period....

He seems its his right do do what he wants to cause he bought a fishing License.

Needless to say I hope he reported me to Bernie Marcus... Cause I gave him an earful.

Very sad, but I'm curious (educate me?).

Was this fish for certain hooked in a no-fish zone? If not, would the fisherman have known for sure what was on the line before he got it to the surface? Is it possible once he got it to the surface and saw what it was he may have released it knowing it was a protected species but not knowing enough to realize what had happened to the poor creature by bringing it to the surface? There are a lot of bumbling idiots out there.

Not sure which is worse, a jerk or a bumbling idiot, but the latter seems more forgiveable.
