Salinity?

I was just wondering what is my salinity suppose to be at? Right now it's about 31ppt.

That's a touch low, but nothing I would be overly concerned about. Ideally you should be somewhere just around 33-34ppt.

I see 1.026 (35 ppt) listed the most when I read reefer's parameters. I usually stay at 1.025-1.026 (34-35 ppt).

I stay at 1.027 most of the time.

Are you testing with a hydrometer or a refractometer?

Not trying to hijack but i heard that the lower you keep the salinity the better not meaning super low but like 1.023 b/c it helps the fishes immune system is this true. I usually stay at 1.025. Would that be for a fish only tank, would it effect corals in a different way?

For a fish only tank, this would be beneficial iirc. for a reef tank, prolly not

I keep my SG at 1.022/1.023 in my reef tank, but as I have heard people use a wide range of SG from 1.020 to 1.026, but with 1.026 most likely being the cap. I keep mine at 1.022/1.023 because it is easy for me to maintain this SG, plus my corals are all growing very well in this SG also and my nem I just took back grew huge in this SG.
Another upside to this is SG when you bring a fish home from the store will not have to climb in SG very far and risk salt shock. Most stores keep salinity at about 1.017 or somewhere around there.
Be sure you get an accurate measuring device also. I had a hydrometer that was way out of wack and my SG was 1.031 for a couple months because the swing arm was useless on it. I use a refractometer now.

Similar situation here and we learned that you also have to keep a check on the calibration of your refractometer. Barry had an issue with his salinity (it was also too high) and it was because the refractometer was out of calibration. He now keeps calibration fluid and when we get a reading out of the ordinary, he checks it with the fluid and makes any adjustments as necessary. We both try to keep our salinity at 1.026 on our tanks.
