Quick One. I have run out of salt. What in everyones opinion is the best I can buy? From this opinion pool I know I will get the best answer. Is there the best of the best?

I have been using Seachem but I see alot of threads saying bad things about their products. I have primarily SPS

Much appreciated.

I have been using Salinity for some time now, and MY FISH & CORALS love it! I've used Seachem Reef for many years before that.....

I've been using Salinity since launch and my fish and corals seem to be doing great.. plus i like this salt because in my personal experience i went longer than i should without changing bulbs and my corals still did great.

I have mostly SPS, a few LPS and a lot of Zoas/Palys

Instant ocean reef crystals, you will have to dose some Ca if your have a lot of hard coral

Instant Ocean is the only salt I will use. It's a tried and truste product. Back in the day however I did use oceanic salt and had good results. Can't go wrong with IO IMO.

What kind of tank do you have, FO? If you have a reef do you have to dose alot?

I have quite a few tanks. I have a 220 fish only, 90 reef, and a 28 cube that is a reef. I don't dose one bit but then again I'm not keeping SPS. Although I'm thinking about a piece or two in the 28. Just made the switch over to LED's on the 28. I may have to dose calcium if I had a tank full of SPS but I don't, so IO works like a charm. I've had too many friends in this hobby lose a tank over a bad batch of salt. That's a risk I'm not wiling to take on my FO or reefs.

salinity did its best to destroy my tank going back to reef crystals and have vowed to do my best to stay away from sea chem from now on don't need their inconsistancies and excuses.
Reef Crystals did it for me for nearly 10 years so I recommend this salt for the least amount of problems with cloudy water, residue left in my mix tank and saying good bye to all the algae issues I had using salinity. REEF CRYSTALS is the way to go

Reef crystals but I have to dose because I have mainly SPS

Edit: Reef crystals but I have to dose because I have mainly SPS

Curious, Bill... you seem to have it in for Seachem these days, making wild accusations, assumptions and speculations, and stating the products are inconsistent. We use Seachem products in all our tanks at the shop and at home and in dozens of tanks we maintain, and have no issues.

Ever wonder if it's user error on your part? Surely if things were as bad as you say, we'd be seeing that in at least a few dozen tanks - yet it's not happening.

Apologies to the original poster for deviating from the original intent of this thread.

At home we use Seachem Reef Salt. In the shop for economy and convenience we use Reef Crystals. Salinity, Seachem Reef and Reef Crystals (in that order) are our best sellers followed by Instant Ocean.

All are good quality salts. With some you may have to dose less because they have more stuff in them to begin with (depending on what you keep).

Thanks everyone. I believe I will try Salinity. This is a new tank and I really want to get it started off right.

Now, LF stores sell it pretty much everywhere?

I like the brightwells neomarine and tropic Marin bio-activ salts. I've only used those two salts with this tank and have liked them a lot. I used to use coralife and oceanic on my old reef tanks. I use instant ocean in the fish only. Salt is salt. I would guess that quite a few of them are made in the same facility.

Edit: They have all worked fine for me!

I see a thread was shutdown with quite a few people having the same issues I am complaining about with seachem, I thought it might just be something I was doing but reading others having the exact same issues I will start wondering and yes I do have a real problem with seachem these days and will be more than happy to discuss with anyone from seachem or anyone else. I am swearing off their products and turning to brightwell for supplements and as you know I ordered 600 gallons of reef crystals from you last week. When I start loosing soft corals such as zoa's and leathers that were thriving until I switched to salinity and now that I did a water change using IO and see them coming back around and then I read others in the hobby have had similar experiences then again I start wondering. I give credit and great reviews along with strong recommendations to any product, company or person that is deserving but I will also let it be known when a product or company doesn't perform as advertised
I also believe there was quite a long thread before it disappeared about who was using salinity, if I'm not mistaken that thread hit 6 or 7 pages with a great deal of the posts being complaints and problems with the salt. I also look at other online forums and it seems there are quite a few issues on the other forums as well.
I realize you are a seachem platinum dealer so you have to stand behind the product and I would hope you would also believe in their products if your selling them but something has changed over the past year and there seems to be quality control issues as of late or they are using different raw material suppliers that just aren't the same.

Why don't you check out these threads first then make a decision. I am not going to choose sides as I use Red Sea Coral Pro and like it.

I'm not trying to change your mind... I know I can't do that. All I am saying is that WE use the products and have not experienced a problem. I don't use Salinity (not cost-effective in the shop), but I wouldn't hesitate to.

Seems there has been a bit of polarization lately - half the people posting love the stuff (in general, not just Salinity) the other half hate it. Many of our clients use Salinity and their tanks are awesome.

I did take exception to your rant in the thread that was deleted talking about "investors" and other nonsense - you know nothing of which you speak in that regard, and respectfully in my opinion those statements were unfounded and un-called for.

You know I like you and respect you, Bill so this isn't personal (nor do I take it that way). I just hate to see the discussion deviate from actual matters at hand and wild speculation.

You weren't happy with the product. I get that. Have you spoken to Seachem about it? If so did you send in a sample of the salt? I know they'd ask you do that. If you haven't, then I recommend that you do and they will check into it, because that is the high level of service that Seachem provides. And they *are* concerned with their customers' successes.

If you haven't done that, I suggest you give them a call. If you need any assistance with that, consider it offered by me.

As I said, we use their stuff daily - at home, in the store, and in dozens of maintenance tanks and we have yet to observe any "inconsistencies" or any of the other complaints I've seen posted in the threads by several people. So I'm not sure where the problems lie, but it seems to me that being the individual products is likely not the case.

All my parems are spot on, sps, Lps, and a few sorfies growing like weeds.
