Hello all,

My name is Garrick. I just joined ARC with hopes to learn everything I need to know about owning a saltwater aquarium. I currently have a 20L freshwater aquarium with some Tetras and some Guppies. Any pointers, tips, criticism is much appreciated!
I'm not really sure where to start with my saltwater adventure. I have been looking alot at the NanoCube setups. I would love some coral and am intimidated somewhat by the HID's they require.

Thanks,
Garrick A.R.

Welcome. Lots of good info and helpful folks here. Do lots of research and ask lots of questions before you pull the trigger on a setup.

Welcome Garrick, as previously stated, do a lot of research and don't be afraid to ask questions. Once you figure out what size tank etc you are going after post up your "wish list" and everyone can offer up advice.

Oh and good to have someone else down in the Peachtree City area :), welcome again!

Welcome aboard! Don't be too intimidated by the lighting, there ar some really cool corals that don't need a lot of light.

Agree, I have seen some amazing looking corals in smaller tanks running 100$ LEDs

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the welcoming comments. I definitely am a research fanatic! As I have been looking into the NanoCube setups, I already have an extra 55 gal. aquarium that has not been used yet. So I'm torn between the two at the moment. I need to see how much more work I would be in for going that big.

It's great to hear that I can still have some cool corals without the HID. Those suckers get hot!

On a side note, some of my other hobbies are working on cars, taking care of a few Leopard Geckos, and smoking food. Thanks for the awesome welcoming!

What are you thinking about putting into the tank!

Fish wise I'm interested in Basslets, Blennies, Cardinals, Chromis, Clownfish, Dartfish, Dragonets, & Jawfish.

Coral wise I haven't a clue.

We're gonna need a bigger boat! LOL!

welcome to the club! the funny thing you'll learn about this hobby, the bigger the tank the less work you actually need to do. it's all about consistency and stability. (but then there is the extra cost of going bigger lol)

good deals on used equipment show up here on the forums all the time. A cool little cube will be listed soon ;-p

55 gallons are excellent starter tanks. They are big enough to provide some water stability but not so big that equipment gets crazy.

Looking forward to getting to know you.

+1, a 55 is a great size. while a big tank for fw, this is a great starter size for salty.

+1 on bigger tanks being easier.
There is a great deal on a 250 gallon tank with stand on the club now.

Welcome! As stated above, bigger tank = more stability. Also, there are several "stickied" threads in the new member Q&A forum that have excellent info for beginners.

Welcome to the club. All the info posted so far is spot on. I have a question about one of your other past times though. You say you are into smoking food. How do you fit a Turkey in the pipe???? :-)
