my tank has been up and running for 5 months and i have started growing Coraline algea and i still have the brown rust color stuff in teh sand what can i do to get rid fo this stuff??

+1 Check your phosphates, don't over feed and don't overrun your lights (8-9 hours should do).

How big is your tank? Make sure you have a good clean up crew. If you have a large tank, a couple of conch's will help turn the sand as well as some nasarious snails.
 
i have about 5-10 nasarious snails and only run my lights 8-9 hours and all my phosphates are very low as i dont have any other problems with algea just this brown stuff in the sand i dont over feed i feed every two days just enough to keep them from eating each other because i dont want my levels to go up
 
I was using tap water but have started using rodi water from a local fish store in duluth
 
There might still be silicates in the sand and rock - do a couple of waterchanges and keep using RODI
