ok so i was thinking about trying a sand sifting star (small one) for my 40B but i think this tank would be too small for it, also i have Seaflor substrate. now having said that i have notice that there are different size grain seaflor, mine are not the big pieces, they are the grain size just a little bigger than my regular agra alive sand i have in my other tank(just for reference i bought it in 15# bags at petsmart). so i guess my real question is can a goby sift this? any other creatures that can?

nassarius snails, fighting conchs, some gobies as well.

Felix, how long have you had yours? Also, do you supplement their feeding? I've heard these can be very difficult to keep, especially in a smaller system, and they tend to out grow their surroundings.

if they do it takes way more than a year, b/c i had one in my 45tall and it was about a half dollar size never got bigger than that in a year. it died from param spikestho! i miss that little guy and i supplement fed mine raw pieces of calamari.

I know of one dragon goby that sifts Special Grade Reef Floor just fine, FWIW.

i have a conch and it does a great job, he is like a submarine all you can see sometimes are his eyballs. Cool guy i got him from creation reef. Doesnt mess with anything and is very peacfull. He is heavily armored so nothing can mess with him. Watch out for the barb on the bottom of him though

Yeah, conchs are cool. They're like monster nassarius snails.

I thought horseshoe crabs prefer cooler water than what we generally have?

I had them for 2-3 months now. Got a pair from Rit, and they are still the same size as I got them, around 2" round. I feed them pieces of shrimp and pellets.

Have you seen my super Tongan nassa snails?....they do a awesome job....check the like in my sig....there's one on top of the sand bed in one of the pics after I dumped some food in....about 1.5" shell....2" foot
