Sand Sifting Star Mated Pair?

If you have more then one have you ever seen them "hugging"? I thought one of mine was dead yesterday and went to scoop him out of the tank, only to find it attached to my other one ....kinda cool maybe they are a mating pair? That would be sweet if I had a bunch of babies. I have pics as well, will post them once I can get them downloaded on my computer...
 
I don't think it's mating, but that sort of activity happens quite frequently. I've seen it dozens of time in the shop.

Any time I've seen it discussed online, it's usually reported not to be mating - not sure why they do that but they do.

I did a bit of googling. Any other time I've seen this discussed it's been explained away as something else - but I found this and a few other articles that support your notion - and I trust Bob Fenner as a source of info.

Yes, they may indeed be attempting to reproduce, but since they broadcast their gametes, it's highly unlikely that you'll ever see any offspring.

I learn something new every day ;)

Just because they are not having babies does not mean they are not mating, thank goodness!!! :yay:
