I've got some dry rock I need to cut flat bottoms on. med to large pieces. what kind of saw will do this? better yet, who has one I can rent/ borrow/ use?

You can use a tile saw is best you can rent from homedepot get the bigger saw not the small one

I rented a concrete saw from Home Depot. I made a bunch of flat bottom foundation rocks, more than I needed so I could play around with the scape. A 4hr rental will be more than enough time.

If you have a reciprocating saw, you can use a special masonry blade in it to cut Marco rock. It's made for concrete and pavers. I got the Starx Reciprocating Saw Blade set from Amazon. You'll have to clamp down the rock somehow to make a good cut. I used it to cut these rocks flat and then drilled them to hold frag plugs:

You dont want a saw. What you will end up hearing is a tile saw, which can only cut 3" deep at best. Here a grinder is your best friend. The flappy sand paper wheel is great, as well as the diamond cutting wheel.
