What do you guys use for covering the top of your aquariums?i have tried black fiberglass screening,it seems to block out too much light. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Bulk Reef Supply sells netting that doesn't block light...that's what I used.

I have seen that stuff JB posted up. Best looking imo! They sell fittings to frame it like a window screen.

I bought a window screen repair kit and screen from Lowes and made my own. Egg crate would be a lot easier though.

What screen/net material are you guys using from HD?

Edit: The black screen material usually seen in windows?

I've used the BRS stuff, and this mesh from Papermart: http://www.papermart.com/standard-deco-mesh/id=5223#5223">http://www.papermart.com/standard-deco-mesh/id=5223#5223</a>

The papermart mesh is finer grid and more pliable than the BRS mesh, but larger grid than window screen. It's made to wrap gift baskets, so places like Michaels or Hobby Lobby might have it, but I haven't look there.

Just my experience- Beware of using Halides with this. UV degradation will cause the netting to become brittle and break apart within a year.

I use the netting from BRS and the window frame, corners, and spline from HomeDepot.

I don't sell the mesh any more.

There really is not a better material for keeping the fish in and the heat out as the clear 1/4" mesh for screen tops. Anything else blocks way too much light. Eggcrate will block a lot of light going into the tank.

It can get brittle under some halide use, but for the benefits it provides, I would suggest anyone using it to treat it like a consumable. A once a year replacement is not too bad, IMO.
