Sealing holes

I have a 75 gal RR tank that I would like to use as a sump. After taking out the overflow box, I am faced with the choice of either using a piece of glass to glue over the holes or using bulk heads and plugs to seal the holes. I would like some input to help me decide which option would be safer long term.
Thanks

If done properly IMO both would last. With the bulkheads being much easier to repair if it went bad.

Then it sounds like it was not done correctly. If proper silicon (RTV108) is used and area is cleaned the spot should last as long as the normal tank seal especially in a sump application where the water level is lower.

I do however agree with Grouper Therapy in that either way will and should work fine! :)

If the hole is patched from the inside the water pressure even works in your favor...

wouldn't the bulkheads stick out of the bottom though? wouldnt this keep the tank from being able to sit flat?

Depends on what it is sitting on.

Edit:

You can reverse the bulkheads and have the longer threaded end in the tank and the gasket and she short end on the out side.

Thanks for all the responses. From all the info, I am leaning towards the glass as suppose to the bulk heads. I think it will give me a cleaner look and LilRobb has a valid point with regards to pressure. The holes are on the bottom of the tank and the gravitational pull downwards shouldn't cause any lifting action on the piece of glass covering the holes. Thanks again

One more question. Would 1/4" glass be adequate or should I used thicker like 3/8"?

I think you would be fine with either as you are only sealing the holes

I have some 1/4" glass and could use that, I don't want to skimp and have problems in the near future. At the same time, I got a quote of over $40 just for a small piece of glass to cover the hole. BTW who is the tank builder on here, maybe I can get a piece of 3/8" from him.

wow, thats high for that lil piece. Chris at fishscales is the man. I think its fishscales2

check his forum if its still there it may not be, alot of people have his number I cant remember it

Edit: you might could ask around for a piece there are some really generous people here

rjrgroup you the man. Thanks everyone, hopefully I can get the glass from fishscales.
