My Long tentacle Green Plate just kicked the bucket. I'm not even sure why. He was doing great, and then he wasn't. He slowly melted away over the course of about three weeks....

It sucks, because I loved that little guy. But now I'm scared to get a new one, because I have yet to identify why it happened.

...Aaaaand now my Candy Canes have lost all the blue in the center and have blown up like balloons. WTH???

Parameters:
Temp 78 F
Salinity - 1.025
Ph - 8.0
Kh - 8.4 DKh
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrites - 0 ppm
Nitrates - 3 ppm
Phosphates - 0.5 ppm
Calcium - 440 ppm
Magnesium - 1200 ppm

Another thing... My RBTA has split two times in two months. It was huge, so no biggie. I now have three RBTA about the size of my hand fully spread out. BUT... I've noticed over the last few days, that they are starting to look a little bleached out. I've got a Kessil A350 and run the Blue at 100% and the White at 25%.

I don't have a light parameter meter to know whether it's too strong for them though. I guess I'll have to experiment with it and hope I get it right before they kick the bucket too.

P.S. I know this picture sucks, but it's all I got.

How long has the tank been running ? And how long did you have the plate?

The tank is about six months old... The plate lasted about two months.

Oh... And two peppermint shrimp died yesterday.

Done any recent water changes or additions to the tank recently? Anyone cleaned near by?

I was doing religious water changes every Tuesday, then went to every other Saturday. This Saturday will be the next scheduled water change. All parms maintained even when I switched my maintenance schedule about six weeks ago.

No recent additions. Everything in the tank has been there for minimum two months.

Nothing has been cleaned near by other than regular house chores (Assuming you meant "anything" not "anyone").

The only change in the entire apartment has been the addition of a Christmas tree and a Tempur-pedic mattress. I remember when I first got into this hobby reading a thread on reefcentral.com about a guy wondering if the new Tempur-pedic mattress he got was screwing with his tank... The smell they put off when their new is what got him thinking. However, there were enough hobbyist in that forum expressing that they never had a problem with their mattresses/aquariums that I can rest assured that it has nothing to do with it.

Religious water changes? Does that mean you used Holy Water instead of RO? Hehehebe

Candy Cane coral swelling has gone down and some of the coloring has came back in the centers... Although, there is this weird webbing looking stuff over the polyps.

I turned the Blue on the Kessil down to about 35%... We'll see how the Anemones fair.

Unfortunately, the two Peppermint Shrimps have not came back to life...

don't remove the dead plate, they usually spawn before dying and you may wind up with a tree of them

Sounds to me like they are either not getting enough light or have too much; photosynthesis issues don't usually lend themselves to overnight death; rather a long starvation.

Edit:

+1, most plates recover quite well

I wouldn't stress too bad about the rbta bleaching a little. Mine bleaches slightly after splitting but a couple weeks of feeding and light gets it to bounce back. I'm sure ripping yourself in half is a stressful ordeal. I would probably need a couple weeks to recover too ;)
