So one of my first cleaner shrimps I put in after starting the bigger (the 40 breeder in January of 2009) tank has just past. He was a great little cleaner shrimp.. and greedy lol

I noticed earlier tonight he had slow reaction to me moving the glass cleaner...
and yesterday I didn't seem him as active. However, the rest of the shrimps in the tank are doing just nicely but he will be missed... will be replaced with another cleaner shrimp and a fire shrimp. Then all will be good again.

Its funny tho, he was a tough little dude, been through a lot. Well thats life I suppose.

Also, does anyone know of a sponsor or member who is selling a cleaner or fire shrimp i can add to my tank?

sorry to hear this bro.
i cant seem to keep shrimp alive longer than a week.
all i have in the tank is a clown, a humbug, and a engineer goby.
i have a good friend that bets the bank my goby is killing
off my shrimp. your opinion?

there is that possibility. i dont have an engineer goby for its large adult size or I would have one. do you have a fuge? buy one and put in there and wait and see what happens, i usually drip acclimate mine about 10 minutes to and hour. i actually bought all my cleaner shrimps (2 skunk and 1 fire shrimp) from petco about a year ago. They all have done well.
just wished i would of know he was goin out and i would of gotten another while at blue planet, but that gives me an excuse to go back there tomorrow before work :D

no not on the 27 i dont. when i get off my arse and start putting together
the 120 i will have.
the goby is very shy. he doesnt ever come out but to eat.
by far one of my fav fish. not good with a DSB though.
when the 120 goes up the 27 will be left to the goby, might
even get him a friend.
i drip mine for at least an hour or more. thought that a short drip caused the death of my first shrimp so i long drip them all now.

I drip mine at a faster rate rather slow drips over a long period. which would be the same amount if you think about it.. but anyway the ones I have introduced with this method have all faired very well with no problems.. so far. Of course, I know that isn't the case with this shrimp's death as they have been in there for over a year lol

my problem is i like the shrimp dangitt lol, and i cant have one.
i might turn the 120 into a shrimp tank since goby wont be in there.
j/k

actually that would be pretty cool looking to see... coral and shrimp tank... talk about clean as ever lol

i just dont think that goby would kill off shrimp like that though... at least not that i have heard of

its gotta be somebody doing it.
maybe the clow or humbug damsel?
the longest a shrimp has made it is 8 days.
heck, the one i got from tim 2 meetings ago lasted 12 minutes, never seen him again.
never seen anybody pick on him either, just vanished.
i need one of those tiger shrimp thats invaded the GA coast lol.

Probably just died of old age, how big was it? I keep lots of shrimp and the longest cleaner I have had live is around 2 years, but they were already an inch when I got them. The fire shrimp and tiger I have right now are about a year - year and a half mark and the cleaners are around 6 months. I don't know how long of lives they have but they seem to be a few years tops.

I just lost my oldest cleaner shrimp(Mr Whiskers) I had him almost 2 1/2 years. I slow drip about 1 1/2 hrs. I have ll shrimp of different kinds. I put a ceral keeper in my sump and slow drip into it. That keeps the temp from getting to cold on a slow drip.

Rick, are the shrimp "dying" (ie you find a body, not a molt) or "disappearing"?

If they are disappearing, it's the engineer - particularly if it's a fairly large engineer. If he's messing with the sand, I'm betting he's larger.

hey jenn.
well both actually. one disappeared while i found actual bodies of the others. yep bill is pretty big. im willing to guess hes 7in in length.
oh he moves sand all over the place. piles it here and there to his likings.
thats why he wont be going to the 120 (no matter how much kirsten
pouts about it) he will stay in the 27 and maybe get a goby friend if its possible. can two E gobies live in the same tank like that?

IMO he needs a bigger tank - but I'd never suggest putting shrimp in with one that big.

I don't think they are "dying", I think they are being killed.

ya think so? i might dump the 27 into the 45. im just not sure how to go about it safely at this point w/o causing myself problems.

While reading this, I'm thinking what a bummer for you to lose your shrimp, when it dawned on me I haven't seen either of my two cleaner shrimp in a while. I went searching for them but see no sign of either one. I'll look tonight when the lights are off but I'm not very hopeful at this point. I don't think I have anything in the tank that would even remotely be a threat to them but I doubt they both died of old age either.

It was old age that killed mine... it was about 2" big. but its all good, i will get another :)
