Parameters are exemplary, but my Kenya Tree which continues to spawn baby Kenya's hasn't been fully extended for about a week. Most of my other softies recover in less than a day. The adjacent leather and SPS are doing great (see pics for comparison). I haven't changed the location of anything. It almost looks burnt - no new light bulbs either.

BTW, the SPS that I was worried about because of a few bleachy-looking spots recovered fully.

Ideas?
 
that's a good thing....I wish I had none....Its a weed...
 
Hmmm... a small bit of web research says it feeds on micro-plankton and other "outside" food. Maybe this link will help...

Thank you, very interesting. I have owned it since January, but only started feeding it in early April with DT's after buying a featherduster and was told that's what the featherduster eats. I know some call it a weed, but I like it and give away the frags.
It appeared to do best before the DT was added to my food (only every other day....per the sponsors instructions). Interestingly, it's little Kenya babies are doing well.
 
Yeah, I got a small Kenya tree frag at the January meeting.. popped it into a turbo snail shell, and it took hold and has tripled in size, but it's not out-of-control. I like it.

You have a curious problem... maybe slow down on the DT's? I have a hard time getting *everything* in the tank to be happy all at once. For example, my GSP is super-sensitive to alk drops.

Sometimes softies go through a dormant stage. Some think it's linked to growth, and it very well might be.

Oddly, I've never seen a Kenya Tree NOT thrive. Imagine how bad the water would have to get for that to happen....
 
my tree does the same thing. even turned gray once for about a week.
always bounces back.
my clove coral did something weird the other day though, the tips turned white. dont know what caused it. i mean a bright white.
it appears to be doing ok and the tips are turning back to their normal brown color. any ideas folks?
 
Anything near by that could be stinging it? I had a colt coral that had white tips on one side and turned out some GSP had popped up too close and stung it. I took the GSP out and the colt healed eventually..
 
hmm I don't kenya trees sting like that.. I could be wrong. I do know that I read that they sometimes give off toxins and can have a chemical war with other corals.. May be better to play it safe and move it a little further away just in case.

Respectfully - I wouldn't suggest dosing iodine unless the water is tested and it's proven to be low on iodine. Some is good but more can be toxic.

If Tony is doing regular water changes with decent salt, the iodine level should be fine, but testing would confirm or refute that.

The coral looks fine in the picture. Usually those are pretty bullet-proof but they will "tell" you when the alkalinity is a bit low.

I'd leave it alone. It is a type of leather and as others have said they go through down cycles.
 
Super advice. I learned a lot. Thank you. Parameters are excellent. Water changes are being performed. Nothing is close enough to sting it. Thank you :-)
