Sick zoas

Just type
>

:confused2:Zoas (that have previously been fully opened for weeks) appear to have green soft cotton like a q-tip wrapped around them and will not let them open. It has moved to several different areas. Thought it was the BIg "B" but have looked up pictures and it's not the "B". I have before and after picts but typing this is a chore for a computer illerate. I have uploaded them to PICASA and have been able to view them but just don't know how to get them from picasa to you. Sorry I am so stupid with the pictures. I see that there is an e-mail box to click on, but I am sure that isn't it. Bubba

Could be green hair algae... the base of zoas tend to collect food and other organic material that it feed on. If possible, pull the rock/frag out into a separate container filled with some tank water and "hose off" as much junk as possible with a turkey baster. Then use tweezers and/or a small brush to remove the algae growth. Discard the dirty water.

Thanks for the reply, I am desperate. I have tried that and the green stuff doesn't move. I also tried the tweezers but it killed the zoas. I am now adding kent tech m and I'm up to 1600 and that doesn't touch it. But, I am adding the tech m because someone told me it was the dreaded "B". Is there anyother way known to reefers that will kill this stuff? Thanks so much, Bubba

looks like you've gotten rid of most of the bryprosis. Seems like a small amoung of hair algae now. not surprising, once the bryprosis dies it releases nutrients into the water and other algae can grow. It will go away as long as you keep up with your water changes and don't over feed.

On a good note the frags you got a couple weeks ago look great!

Thanks Jason, now my button colony is engulfed with white mold. Take them out and just keep the ones not molded? Have had 20 crabs all over the orange colony. They cleaned it up but the small heads don't seem to be opening. Skimmer died, looking to replace asap. Is it safe to order over e-bay. Got the salinity gizmo and water tested exactly the same as my $5.00 plastic job. Missed you at Easter but your wife looks great.
