Silicon and Acrylic Adhesion

I've been converting an acrylic wet-dry to a baffled sump and it was pretty much impossible to add my bubble trap walls using Weld-On. Against others advice, I used 100% GE silicon (actually sold at Home Depot in the acrylic sheet section) and have been AMAZED at how well the silicon adheres. I did a test piece and siliconed 2 chunks together and had to use a screwdriver to pry them apart.

While I would not use this method to build an acrylic sump or other watertight structure, the silicon certainly adheres well enough for baffles. From other comments I received, I was under the assumption that it wouldn't hold at all.....and now I couldn't pull my trap walls out if I wanted to:thumbs:

Yep,I did the same thing.I took a 20gal long and added 3 baffles to make it a fuge, and I ran it for a year before I upgraded to a 75gal fuge.
