I am cleaning out a few old tanks, and I have heard vinegar works well. Has anyone had any experience with this? I am worried about the acidity eating at the seals. I have epoxy, but for some odd reason it turns yellow when it comes in contact with salt water, so I do not want to use it....unless it goes in a sump or something like that of course. Can I just pour it down the walls and wipe clean? Is there a recommended cleaning cloth I can find laying around the house that will not cause scratches?

How big is the tank, vinegar is completely safe to use if its dilluted, no reason to worry its always better to me to clean a tank while its full of water less chances to scratch it.

It is a 90 (86.6) gallon tank mainly. The other ones are smaller, but they just have algae that was not very noticeable until it dried. I am trying to sell/trade the big one so I can change a few other things around and devote more tanks to salt than fresh....

+1 on this statement it works well

Mr Clean Magic Eraser Original works great to scrub tanks with. Use the Original which has no cleaning agent added.

Family Dollar even markets their own brand.

They are awesome!

Dylan uses this stuff to clean our glass. He says that you can pour it in the tank with no ill affect. He works at aviarium and his does awesome maintence. Should ask him what it was now that i think about it.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words. The product is called "safe and easy" made by API

I've got some new stuff called Zap-Cal and it's safe and quick.

Try a safety razor to remove it. If it doesn't come off with a razor then the glass is etched and you can't do anything about it.
