I know there was a thread somewhere about sizing and flow rates for UV sterilizers but I can’t seem to find it. My tank will be a 66g display with about 25g sump. I was just trying to see what would be best for my system, a smaller ~8watt unit or a 18watt unit.

If you use google to search. site:https://atlantareefclub.org/boards (Type what you're searching for here without the ( ) )

I’m also in the market for a UV unit and I’ve done a ton of research. Essentially, you want a unit that can do 1-3 times turnover on its minimum flow. Every manufacturer sizes their units differently, so you’d have to go by specific models rather than wattage. On BRS, all their UV units list maximum aquarium size which is based on manufacturer’s specs and assumes 1x turnover per hour (turnover below 1x is undesirable). I would go by those numbers. If you go too big, you may have issues with heat so I wouldn’t go with maximum tank size more than 3x your tank.
