skimmer powered by a powerhead

I've been looking around for a good deal on a pump for my skimmer, but the other day I remembered I have a spare penguin 1140 powerhead. I rigged it to fit when I was bored, and it seems to be working. It may be a little to strong (at 300gph), but it's skimming. I'm not really satisfied w/ the performance, so I'll probably keep looking, but I did not think it would actually work... Just felt like sharing.

coralife 65. I have the nozzle that is supposed to be attached to the pump hooked up to the skimmer, and it seems to be pulling air. Maybe not enough tho.

that skimmer uses a needlewheel pump at around 325 Gph. If you are looking for a replacement, I would suggest a sedra
