Skimmer Pump Clearance from Sump Wall

I can't seem to find anything online about this, but I'm trying to find the amount of clearance needed from the side wall of the sump to allow the pump to function. It's an Octo 150S, and it fits snug in the sump... Really snug. Is 1/2" distance enough, or you think more is needed? Trying to make a sump work without a redesign, but want some expertise. Thanks!

My Vertex Omega 130 is slammed in my 18Cube but works perfectly fine. It just needs to be able to pull the water and air in, I doubt clearance matters much if it fits and it is able to pull water.

Just make sure you can get the pump out to clean it. If there is room for that, it will have space to pull enough water.
