According to him, over sizing your skimmer doesn't necessarily mean better performance or better removal of DOC's. In fact, he stated you probably get better overall constant performance from an accurately rated or even an underrated skimmer. His basis was basically the bio load and water volume not being able to keep up with the way the skimmers intended to function. Skimming should be as stable as possible. Drastically overrating your skimmer and your skimmer wouldn't be able to constantly skim nutrients. He also told me to look at skimming as basically a way to buy time between water changes.
