Thinking of upgrading our skimmer in the near future. Currently running an in-sump Skimz DC SM167 Monzter. It's quiet and thus far has worked out pretty well but I think it might be a little undersized now for our system (went from 120g to 200g). Taking it apart when needed is pretty straightforward. Our tank would probably benefit from the additional gas exchange a larger skimmer would provide though.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a suitable upgrade? I think I would say our system is "medium" bio-load. Only have experience with this brand/model so far.

Thanks.

Lifereef skimmers with venturi- great skimmers.

I have to admit I’m living the maxpect duo. Before that I had 2 bubble kings… I honestly feel like it’s comparable

The Varios DC pump skimmers offer great control, efficiency & easy battery backup options. They are also silent. Direct interface is available for both the Apex & Hydros controllers, so you can automatically turn it down at night, for example This model is proven & at a lower price point than the Elite models, which are other options. Also can be upgraded with neck cleaners for more consistent performance & easier maintenance.
