Skimmer?

I like the Reef Octopus Brand of skimmers. I am running an Octopus needlewheen 150 on my 65 gallon tank and it has worked great.

I have a coralife super skimmer 125 on my 90 and it works great. It's not the best but it's a great product for the price and does the job.

I think the coralife skimmers are good too and ran one for several years until I replaced it with a Deltec HOB.

HANDS DOWN... Reef Octopus!!!!! Best skimmer I have ever had! Some day's when I check on it foam is just flowinging into the collection cup! I'm not trying to talk bad about coralife, but those skimmers are junk. I had one on my 26 gallon. If you want a good skimmer, you have to spend the money! :)

I agree, value for your money it is hard to beat an Octopus. Very good skimmer!

Thanks for all your help I have been looking at the coralife and the reef octupus and was trying to decide between the two since I'm a novice at this hobby!

Between those two, Octopus all day long. The only other skimmer that I like in the similar price, "bang for the buck" category vs. Octopus skimmers are the SWC Xtreme cones.

Any LFS you go to will tell you Octopus! You have to consider how clean you want your water to be! Octopus or another really good skimmer will do best!
Forget about Coralife!

Well, I know octopus makes a HOB skimmer, but i'm not sure about any other ones! If I were you I would go with an Octopus, but it's up to you! (:

I know quite a few folks who run coralife and are very happy with them.

I ran one for a while on a frag system and it did just as well as some high dollar skimmers did.

I was wanting to try something kinda inexpensive on my tank since I'm on a canister filter and dont have a sump yet. I wanted to wait for the high dollar ones til I get a better filtration system.

You can wait! I got my 75 gallon tank back in November of 2010 and I just installed a skimmer 3 weeks ago! As long as you stay on top of water changes and run carbon, you will be fine! :)

Didn't know you were looking for a HOB skimmer when I commented above. I don't know anyone with an Octo HOB, so I can't speak to how they work... But the Remora is spoken of pretty highly. To clarify some of the "non-Coralife" sentiments, they are known to be sensitive to water levels. People who use them without automatic topoff systems seem to have trouble keeping them adjusted.
