So I'm looking for a skimmer for my 72 gallon bow front plus 20 gallon sump. I've been looking at tons of them and found this one from SCA. I've seen lots of videos about it and it appears to be a decent skimmer. Kinda a knock off of many different types like reef octopus. Anyone here ever use one of these.

I used a SCA 302 for a while. It was a decent skimmer. However, it overflowed from time to time. When I upgraded to a Reef Octopus 3000 I saw what a difference a better built skimmer did for my system, plus it was set and forget. You could also look at the Jaebo / glass box skimmers with the DC pump.

Ok. Just trying to get a good one but not having to sell a kidney or lung.

Believe I know when I started my system up, I couldn't afford (like most of us) to go lut and buy all the best of everything. So you pick and choose whats important to you. I almost always try to buy used and take my time to find the right piece of equipment I will use down the road if I plan to upgrade my system.

Just a suggestion. :) I went through 5 ot 6 skimmers before I settled on the RO 3000 skimmer. I would saved alot of time, money and aggravation if I had just gone with that one from the beginning.

Totally agree.. Lights, skimmer and pumps for water flow in my opinion are the place to focus. I have had good success with reef octopus skimmers. Work well and last a long time. I have always bought them used.

Thanks. I saw that at his house. Looks great and would last me for a long time I'm sure. Would put a bigger sump in but stand won't hold one any bigger. I had to take the back support off to get it in.

Ive been using a SCA 301 skimmer in a 20L sump with a 40 breeder display tank for 2 months. I have been pleased with its performance.

Never used Brent's but I'm sure it's great.

As an option, I used the Nyros Quantum in my 75 and couldn't be happier

A small BK 160mini would be the stuff if you could find a used one
