Yikes! That is bad news. I lost a few big acro colonies several months back to rusty magnets.

Would the Triton test be the only method to test for increasing levels of heavy metals due to a rusty magnet?

You could run cuprisorb and see what kind of color change you get.

If I recall correctly, there was an issue similar to this with the magnets on their veggie clips.

Almost exactly the same. Veggie clips plastic housing split causing the magnet to rust.

I planned to today but ran into to several problems at work today that changed my plans. I will tomorrow for sure and post when I hear from them.

I see!!!
I also had same problem with eshopps frag rack in the past as well. The Magnet from the inside part was swelling and started sticking out off the rack. It was rusting from inside the magnet holding plastic.

I have always used a small piece of rock with a rubber band to attach the seaweed to and let the fish have at it. Plus I tied some fishing line to it so I can easily pull it out.

That's pretty much what happened to me, except it was in my sump. I didn't notice it until it had gotten way out of control. There were mounds of rust pouring out of the plastic around the magnet.

Jesse, how old is your Smart ATO? I've only had mine about 4 months and it's still fine. Just trying to get an idea of how long it might last before the plastic magnet housing breaks. Thanks for sharing this with everyone!
