Ok well I have a 5 hr deadline to take pics and send back to store so I need to Know how long can a sea snail survive out of water bc I got my order in today and all my snails came in dry bags with no water...... So I thought they were all dead but after getting some of my water and putting them in it some of them are starting to come around and are moving.... So what's the deal?

Really? Who did you order from?

Snails will be okay for a while, they will still have a shell full of water to survive. But I would not consider it good practice to ship with no water whatsoever in the bag. Find it hard to believe that this is the normal procedure

Was there damp newspaper or something in with them? I've ordered snails before and I got some of them like that. Most of them survived.

I'm literally sitting in my kitchen watching snails in a piece of Tupperware in water now to see if they move it's very boring.... Lol everything else made it an emerald, starfish, 50 hermits, just not a turbo snail and about 25-30 snails aren't moving yet

Edit: No nothing but dry bag and a bunch of snails that smell lol

The same thing happened to me the first time I bought snails that were shipped. I was freaking out!

But dont be alarmed, most places will ship snails in a moist environment like a wet paper towel or piece of newspaper. This is perfectly acceptable and should not be a cause for alarm. I have received hundreds of snail shipped this way with no casualties. All should be good.

There wasn't anything in the bag with them no papaer no water nothing but the bag and the snails

How long is it gonna be till they move? I've had 27 out of the 50 move. But my turbo hasn't moved at all since I put him in my water

Edit: Ok well most are moving very very slowly out of their shells now except my turbo and about ten snails which is a total bummer I really wanted him hmm well this has been a very interesting morning. I have literally been watching snails for about an hour... I wouldn't wish this boredom and anticipation on my worst enemy it's very stressful watching these snails lol

Too bad I don’t live closer, I would be happy to come over and watch them for you! The tedious tasks and what may seem boring are some of the more exciting parts of the hobby for me. If the container is sitting on the table it’s possible the temp may be on the cool side and that can have an effect on the snails moving around…just a thought.

Screw it I'm just gonna put the turbo in my tank and if it hasn't moved by tomorrow I'll just toss it lol I'm tired of sitting here just waiting well thx guys all is well I guess :) I really appreciate the help I was in panic mode :)

I like the tedious tasks too just not sitting here for over an hour staring at snails that honestly idk if the are moving or not now my eyes hurt lol

Edit: Always always :) who couldn't be I have the oceans beauty beside my bed :)

Its only when the Ocean's beauty turns in to the stinky beach. I forgot I threw a dying snail into my trash and found it in the AM...Whew that was ripe.

I'd send a polite email to the vendor just to inform them of your experience. With the correct attitude I've had companies mail me replacement parts to products that I admittedly purchased second hand with no charge. It's all about the approach

Hey there I'm not mad and I don't feel ill about it but I just wanted to inform you guys that when my shipment came in everything was great but the snails from the order 1/2 of them were dead on arrival. I got an amazing deal and even minus the snails that didn't make it I still saved myself some money. When I say they didn't make it though I mean the bag had absolutely no water or any moistness to it whatsoever so they mostly dried up and died during shipping :/ but if you could please contact me either by phone or email at anytime. I'd much like to talk to someone to see if anything can be done. Thank you very much!

Good email??? I think it's a good response to a understandable issue right?

I've had snails sit without moving for three or four days.... Then threw them into the sump only to see them chomping on algae a few days later.

Cshack5405...I had the exact same thing happen today...Received my 50/50 shipment at 5:00 pm today...Snails were all apparently DOA. Been watching mine tonite..still no movement. All hermits seem to have made it OK. Sent a polite email to customer service about the DOA snails. Hope to hear from them next day or two. I really needed these snails to help clean-up. Will let you know if I hear from them. Snails were shipped in a dry bag ,no leaks and it felt very cold. Had small heat pack in the cooler.

Well that's a. Bummer to hear but I'm kinda glad to know that's how they obviously are sending them out now wth.... Seems like a death sentence for the snails from them! But I did the same I sent them the above email I'll let you know also if they contact me too
