Hello everyone. At this current moment in the pandemic I am almost always at home starting at a cloudy tank. As I try to wait out the bacteria bloom I am constantly cleaning my socks or buying new ones only for them to be a deep green color just two days after maintenance. Does anyone here currently use a roller type filter like Clarisea? I can’t see myself washing my socks every two days as my water bill has increased significantly which is probably in conjunction with me doing weekly water changes through my RODI setup. Today I can barley see my fish or coral and it is bumming me out. I dealt with this on my 29g without purchasing a UV sterilizer so I am reluctant to purchase one for the Waterbox. I am however losing patience. I know I’m dealing with a larger water volume but as I approach a month of this bacteria bloom I can’t help but get the urge of trying to rectify the current status of the tank. I’m trying to go the natural route and wait it out and see if there is a alternative to UV other than playing the waiting game please if you have any information for the proper approach it would be taken in with gratitude

I wish I could configure my sump to take a roller. Everyone that I’ve talked to that has one seems to love it. I know @chuck was running a Theiling, not sure if he still is or not.

We run the Clarisea SK5000 and it is a beast at pulling out waste. It won’t help a bacterial bloom like UV, but for clear water from waste it does work nicely. We have it set up like they do at Ecotech in their offices- Reefdudes did a nice video of their facility during a visit in the last year. We use an old S1 pump we had to plumb with soft tubing to feed the Clarisea and it works like a charm. The Clarisea is in one chamber of our sump and we placed the pump in another chamber just due to our sump configuration. We have a large system and did not want to plumb it directly to the system as we do not run it all the time.

I wish I hadn’t read that... I have a feeling it may cost me in the long run! :D

I don’t run any. Remove too much nutrient in the long run. Hell, I have an issue with too little nutrient that I need to dose nitrate and phosphate.

But that bloom is just part of the initial setback in my opinion and will clear up eventually.
No socks or roller? What do you have for filtration?

I was thinking of that exact model of roller I’m just not that great at plumbing

If you’ve got the space to do this, it is super easy to plumb and even if it leaks a little, it is in the sump so all is good :) Use a submersible pump with the proper flow rate for the model you chose, use flexible easy to cut tubing and make sure the Clarisea is set to correct height and it should work properly:)

wish me luck

No I'm not running anymore. Due to extremely low nutrients. I did love it though. No more sock cleaning. And crazy thing it seems to be a perfect trap for bristle worms.and it for sale
