I need to do a repair around the bulkhead hole of an ABS tank. I'm thinking I should be able to sandwich the ABS with two pieces of acrylic (one above and one below) and redrill the hole. Anyone have any experience welding ABS and acrylic with a water tight seal? Weldon has sooo many solvents. I'm hoping someone has practical suggestions for which to use. Thanks.

Why not just use some pieces of ABS?

Go to Calsak Plastics in Lawrenceville (http://www.calsakplastics.com">www.calsakplastics.com</a>), and get a few small pieces of smooth ABS sheet plastic.

Something around 3/16" or 1/4" thickness should do, on both sides.

ABS you can weld together with plain acetone, but a solvent cement would probably be easier.

ABS evaporates quickly...

Yes, it is ABS. From the manufacturers site "Made from recycled and recyclable ABS plastic" Thanks for the double check.

That's a good idea! Thanks. Didn't realize there was a local retail source for ABS sheets. I didn't want to order without seeing what I was getting - not a plastics expert, so it's hard to know if I was getting the right stuff. I'll plan a trip to Lawrenceville soon.

Just ask them for some scrap pieces...otherwise they will probably only sell full sheets.
