something in my tank/ ID help please

me and my wife noticed this thing coming out of the sand. sorry I dont have any photo of it, but I will try to get one tonight....
It kinda looks like a feather duster coming out of the sand, but not feather like,,,, It looked more like crablegs coming out of the sand. kinda looks like an anemine .. tried to suck it out with a turkey baster, but every time I get close, it sucks down in the sand. can any body help me with this?
is it friend or foe? thanks for your help

Is it possibly aptasia or a mojano? When in doubt kill it.

I've got something like that as well. It darts under the sand and won't come back out until later or at night. It's pretty shy during the day and can sense when you get near it. Like you, I have no pic but would love to find out what it is. It hasn't spread or hurt anything.

Stringy red tendrils coming out of a single spot/low mound in the sand and they are "feeling" as they go.

If so, it's a harmless detrivore and good for your sand bed.
