Recently got an order of astrea snails from SBB. They all seem to be doing well and are really helpful CuC. I know it's normal for them to have coralline algae on their shells, but this looks nothing like coralline algae. I'm referring to the bumpy growth. It's covering almost the entire shell. Does anyone know what this is? It's only the one snail that's affected. Thanks!IMG_20241105_084639.jpg

Bubble algae
Oh my God, are you freaking kidding me?! They sent me a mini bubble algae bomb to crawl all over and spread it through my tank? That's really messed up, considering how obvious it is on the shell, yet they sent it anyway. Are you sure? Would it be solid like that? What can I do about it?

I'm sorry I can't get a clearer picture. And wish I knew more about all of this, so I could describe it and make sense. This growth is solid looking, doesn't look like bubbles at all. For lack of a better description, it's somewhat like a cluster of tiny dark shells, covering the astrea snail's larger, light colored shell. Tank inspection this morning shows some small patches of it on a few other snail shells, but nowhere else in the tank that I can see. Could it be something that only effects invertebrates with shells? I'll try to get a good, clear picture of it. Google was no help at all, and I need a positive ID for this before I email SBB Corals about it. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas. Stay blessed!

Without a much clearer picture, it’s gonna be really hard to just figure out what it is. I was kicking in on a growth at the very top that looked like a piece of bubble algae most likely it’s not bubble algae if you’re talking about all the hard growth all over that shell and I’m sorry, but I really don’t have any suggestion on what it could be except some type of possibly barnacle or Who knows, again without a really clear sharp picture. It’s gonna be hard to say bottom line though I would not be worried about it.

I don't know what it is. Can you scrape it off without crushing the snail shell? Try using bone cutters or pliers, carefully.

I might be able to try to later today. I don't have bone cutters, but I have a great assortment of tools I use for artwork and jewelry making
